BROW AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS
Remember
Like any cosmetic procedure this is a process. Do not expect immediate results -- and please be patient. It will be a few weeks before you can fully appreciate the results.
General Remarks on Shape & Color
Immediately after the procedure the area treated will look much darker and much more defined (as if it were "painted on") than the final results. Be prepared for the color to be significantly lighter and the overall appearance much softer and more natural after the healing occurs. It will take time for this transition, based on how quickly the outer layer of your skin exfoliates. Usually the exfoliation (peeling) process occurs for about 4 to 5 days and will be complete at about day 10. At that point the contrast between the initial intense and dark color and the new softer and lighter color may be such that you may be very disappointed. DO NOT WORRY! It is expected and normal that you will be receiving a second application, a "perfecting session" in about two months. At that time SHAPE and COLOR will be adjusted to your liking. We can add very easily, but it is much more difficult to remove! You must wait at least 6 weeks between applications. Touching up a tattoo prematurely may result in a ruined tattoo.
How to care for your NEW Cosmetic Tattoo
• Gently wash with lukewarm water for the first 24 hours to remove any lymph fluid that may have formed a crust. You may incorporate a mild wash 2-3 times a day and pat dry with clean paper towel or cotton round for the remainder of healing.
• Do not put any makeup on that area, you want to keep it as clean as possible during healing.
• You may apply a light fragrance-free aftercare (I will supply the product) after 24 hours if skin feels tight and dry, please do so sparingly (nothing more than a rice size amount on each brow).
• Do not scrub, rub or pick at the epithelial crust that forms. Allow it to flake off by itself. If it is removed before it is ready the pigment underneath it can be pulled out.
• No Sweating, Sun, Hot sauna and outside running for 10 days. Low intensity workouts may resume after 24 hours.
Healing
Day 1 & 2: The eyebrows are approximately up to 40% darker and bolder before they are completely healed. Your skin is red under the pigment which causes the color of the pigment to look darker. There is some swelling, although it is difficult to see due to the thickness of the skin in the eyebrow area. This will subside. Exfoliation, which begins in a few days, will cause the excess pigment from the procedure to fade away and a narrower appearance will result.
Day 3: Eyebrows start to itch and will appear a bit thicker in texture. Exfoliation begins.
Day 4 & 5: The skin begins to flake -- peeling from the outside edges first.
Day 6-14: Color finishes flaking off and appears softer and grayer for a few days until color clarifies.
LIP AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS
Remember
For the first two (2) days, use a straw when drinking liquids; avoid sandwiches, biting into fruit or foods that might cause friction to the lips. Avoid spicy, salty, heavily seasoned or hot foods as it may cause irritation.
How to care for your NEW Cosmetic Tattoo
-
All cleansing should be with a clean Q-tip dipped in cool water and gently dabbed on the treated area. Do not rub the area in any way.
-
For the first 3 days, apply ointment using a lip applicator in your aftercare bag onto the treated area every 30-60 minutes as needed. DO NOT let them get too dry! This will help minimize any peeling that may occur.
-
For the rest of the week (or when you run out of the ointment provided to you) you may apply Vitamin E oil to your lips. Apply to the treatment area with a Q-tip several times per day (Do not use mineral oil or petroleum-based products such as Vaseline.)
-
This is to be done in a gentle dabbing motion and not to disrupt the pigmentation bonding process. This will keep the area moist and accelerate the healing.
-
Apply an extra heavy coat of ointment before washing off adjacent areas, and immediately upon rising in the morning.
-
You may let them breathe while you sleep.
-
Baths and showers are permitted but do not wash, scrub or touch the treated area. Hot and steamy baths and showers should be avoided completely. After two weeks, you may resume all regular activities.
-
High Intensity workouts, saunas, steam rooms, or anything else that will cause you to sweat and/or body temperature to rise should be avoided until fully healed.
-
When brushing teeth, coat lips with a generous amount of ointment before brushing and use a minimal amount of toothpaste.
-
Smoking/vaping is discouraged for optimal results.
-
Do not use any lipstick or cosmetics on or near the treated area for seven (7) days.
-
For at least two (2) weeks, please minimize exposure to the sun.
-
NO swimming in fresh, salt or chlorinated water, pools or hot tubs.
-
Please do not lick your lips during healing and NO kissing/making out!!
-
If needed, over-the-counter Tylenol/ibuprofen is permitted for temporary relief of pain or swelling.
-
If you use Retin-A, do not allow it close to the treated area for thirty (30) days. It will cause the area to peel and lighten.
-
Since your procedure is facial, I recommend you sleep on a clean satin pillowcase for seven (7) nights. This will minimize the loss of pigmentation caused by rubbing against a cotton textured pillowcase as you sleep as well as infection from a dirty pillowcase.
The procedure, even after the first treatment, looks so natural that you can feel very secure appearing in public without any additional makeup on the treated area. This rule applies also to non-allergic makeup, as it may contain chemicals that interfere with the bonding/healing process. If or whenever you do begin using cosmetics again, invest in lipstick or tinted lip balm to support your new look. This will eliminate the possibility of bacteria breeding in an old container as well.
